1. Program Introduction
Editor Notes: The discipline of civil engineering was established in 1985, which is one of the key disciplines at NPU.
The program aims to prepare the ground for students who are dedicated to play the leading role in civil engineering. To this end, we would provide a series of professional training and internship programs during four years' study. After graduation, students will achieve the competitive abilities of architectural design, structure analysis, project management, construction site guidance, etc.

Editor Notes: In order to improve students' hand-on ability, many comprehensive practices are provided in this program.
We provide comprehensive practices to improve students' hands-on ability. For example, Practice of Metal Processing Technology, College Computer Experiment, Programming Experiment, Physical Experiment, Engineering Mechanics Experiment, Construction Building Material Test, Geotechnical Laboratory Test, and Structure Experiment.
4. Main Practices
Editor Notes: The experiences of visit construction sites and communication with engineers will be extremely helpful to students' study.
Before learning the major related courses (at the end of the second year), students have chances to visit construction sites and communicate with engineers in form of Cognition Practice and Production Practice. These valuable experience will help them establish intuition concepts efficiently.
5. Internship Opportunities
Editor Notes: Students can go to several construction enterprises to do internship.
We provide extensive guidance, support, as well as the opportunity for internships. The department has established firm cooperation with several construction enterprises (e.g., China State Construction, Shannxi Construction Engineering Group Cooperation Limited, Xi'an Construction Engineering, DAFANG Group) and construction design institutes (e.g. China Northwest Architecture Design and Research Institute CO. LTD, Northwest Engineering Cooperation Limited,
Northwest Research Institute of Engineering Investigation and Design). Moreover, the laboratories in NPU and our department also provide internships and part-time jobs.
6. Career Possibilities
Editor Notes: The employment prospective is very good and employment rate of this program is nearly 100%.
After finishing studies, students can have multiple options for their careers. They can find industrial jobs after the Bachelor graduation. The employment rate of civil engineering was 100% in the past three years. Finding a job for a civil engineer is never a problem in China.
Alternatively, they can choose to further study in NPU. We have two research centers and more than six research groups, which provide several research directions, e.g., mechanical properties of structures and materials under complex loading, structural health monitoring and reliability assessment, modern airport and road design, seismic resistance and design, long-span spatial structure design. Chinese government and NPU also offer scholarships to outstanding students who have strong motivation to participate scientific researches.
7. Introduction of Northwestern Polytechnical University(NPU)
